My inner city school serves a wide variety of students. 94% are considered high need. 77% are considered economically disadvantaged. For 67% of them, English was not their first language and over half of our students are English Language Learners. My culturally diverse classroom includes students from Brazil to Nepal to Vietnam and anywhere in between. They are all hardworking and are focused on the same central goal: to learn English. My students range in ability from non-English speakers who have just arrived in the country to students who are refining their skills and have been in the United States for a few years. This year I am working with 3rd, 5th and 6th grade students with a concentration in 6th grade.
