Children in early childhood need to interact with their learning, they need to create, and they need to connect experiences to concepts. The art and craft supplies requested in this project are for my students to use at home in conjunction with online learning. My three year old early childhood students with special needs embarking on their first school experience this year will be starting out with virtual instruction. My students will need art and craft materials to interact with but don't have these supplies at home. When instruction shifts to in person as safety protocols allow, the funding of this project would allow each student to have their own set of safe art supplies, not shared with peers, which will help reduce the student's exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Supporting this project allows each child to have their own set of basic art and craft materials they need to participate in virtual learning experiences safely at home. Early childhood students identified with special needs require art and craft materials to develop fine motor, adaptive skills, creativity, and engagement though creating projects connected to content. Stories come alive when students interact with text by creating through art. Students will screw lids, pick up small glitter, cut paper with adaptive scissors, and squeeze bottles. Funding this project will help early childhood students identified with disabilities who live in an urban setting develop necessary skills safely at home with virtual instruction.
