Our project will inspire 115 young minds to reward themselves. It is much more than a behavior management system; it has literally changed the culture of our classrooms. I love how I can use brag tags to reward academic and personal successes that my kids may not even think I even notice. We will use the brightly colored paper, laminating sheets and chains to create necklaces that the students love to wear. They used to have their hands out, always more focused on how much treasure box money they would earn than actually achieving a personal goal. These "Brag Tags" are badges of honor the children wear with pride. This small act of giving verbal praise and a little illustrated tag to a child can warm their heart and encourage them to achieve their academic and behavioral goals. These adorable little brag tags may take a lot of effort to buy, print, laminate and cut but it is well worth it to replace a treasure box where all we are teaching our students is to complete a task to earn a prize. Our entire team will use the books to teach, inspire and reinforce character traits needed to be successful, happy, and productive members of society. We also love how brag tags allow us to give immediate feedback and how acknowledging one student can motivate another student to push through a difficult task. Then on Friday they are glowing with pride as they hear their name called and a whole week's worth of verbal praise is placed with care on their necklaces. Our students love to walk around the building showing off all their hard work, this has been a game changer!
