While undergoing medical treatment my students receive instruction in a hospital school program. In certain cases the students are non-verbal students who rely on communication devices in order to communicate to those around them. In some instances, a student’s ability to communicate may be temporarily or permanently impacted by a medical issue and they need to learn an alternative way to communicate their understanding, as well as their needs and wants. I am asking for a class set of GoTalk 4 for them. In addition to communication devices, I would also use the components of the United States Resource box to teach all my students about the United States government. This resource has miniature copies of American symbols, including the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty, historical artifacts such as former U.S. flags, and a facsimile copy of the Declaration of Independence, that students will be able to hold in their hands and explore. Students will learn about voting using the sample ballot box and about the branches of government The book "I Am America" tells the story of diversity in America and provides students with colorful pictures of children from all different backgrounds around the country. The materials wiped down and cleaned for infection control, which is important in a hospital setting. By using the Go Talk 9 students can show what they have learned throughout the unit.
