Let's face it - most of our youngsters now have cell phones that they carry with them at all time that contain a calculator, but they do not know to properly use them. I want my students to be able to use the tools they will carry with them for the rest of their lives, but they are also not developmentally ready to use their cell phones in class. Hence, we are needing basic calculators to aid in our learning. I want them to learn how to use a calculator properly not only to solve math problems in class, but also how to use it to solve math problems in real life. Our state has released new, intensive standards this year. As a result, our students need to learn how to incorporate calculators into their learning. I would like to have enough calculators in our school so that every student has one to use to aid in their learning daily, and also so they have one to use during state testing.
