The weighted lap animal, chewy tubes, vibrating jigglers, and punch ball critters will provide the sensory stimulation necessary to prepare my students to sit quietly and listen, participate in group lesson or complete their work. These materials will not directly teach my students new skills, but they will assist my students while learning in all content areas and within daily living activities. For example, while I'm teaching a lesson on core vocabulary to request, negate, and initiate with peers, one of my students may be rolling around on the floor or pushing against the wall seeking sensory input. The pressure from the weighted lap animal or vibration from the jiggler allows my student to return to the group or independent work area and be able to sit and focus to learn or demonstrate a specific skill. With less behavioral issues, we can increase learning and safety within my classroom. The iPad has revolutionized the world for assistive communication for our children who struggle to communicate from day to day. The iPad, velcro, and laminating paper will provide my students the materials/supplies to communicate throughout their school environment, access their curriculum, and interact with their peers. Velcro and laminating paper will be used to make manual communication boards, adapt books, create picture symbols, and make social stories to allow students to participate within the classroom/school and home environment. The iPad will allow my students to communicate requests, initiate with peers and adults, comment, etc. For example, during breakfast my student can ask for his/her desired meal instead of possibly receiving foods that they do not like because they are unable to express themselves. Your donation will allow my students to learn in a sensory friendly environment and provide them with a voice of their own!
