This year we were able to choose a novel to read together, and our second quarter class novel will be "Chains" the story of slavery during the Revolutionary War. The book jacket states that this book is a "compelling, impeccably researched novel that shows the lengths we can go to cast off our chains, both physical and spiritual." My students will certainly enjoy this novel set in historical times because it adds to the realism and helps them to connect with their world today and themselves. This book will help set the historical background as we move toward present times in the next semester.

About my class
