When I see students who have experienced a significant loss or trauma, I would like to have available a "comfort bag" for them which would contain items to give them comfort and help them in the healing process. I would like to provide a stuffed animal (to hug when feeling sad or scared), a stress ball, a book (about loss), coloring book with crayons and a special card. I would like to get colorful drawstring bags to put all these items in. Over the years I have made home visits or attended a visitation for a family who has had the loss of a parent or child at my school. It would be beneficial to have the comfort bag at that time for the sibling or child to have. I have also had situations where students are put into foster care for various reasons. Many times they have to change schools. I would like to have available a comfort bag for those children to have as well.
