My students were thrilled when they arrived—there were so many smiles and excited hands ready to play. Even a central office administrator, who saw the drums, said, \"I want to be in that class!\"\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new instruments to practice rhythm, teamwork, and steady beat in our percussion circles. The cajones and tubano have added amazing new sounds and energy to our lessons. \r\n\r\nMy favorite group to experience these instruments is my adaptive autism students. This is a group that is self contained, but is part of the resource schedule and I see them at least once a week. They love being able to experiment with different timbres of the drums and to create their own rhythms.\r\n\r\nThese instruments have opened up wonderful opportunities for musical expression and improvisation. I was able to set up multiple tees for the kids to hit off of using the cones and used the pickleballs as hitting balls. The kids were super excited to see and use the cones and balls, I also placed the hopper balls out for an instant activity station that has been a huge hit with the students. They are completing hopping competitions every day. \r\n\r\nI am so thankful for everyone that donated to this project. I can tell the equipment is already impacting their hand and eye coordination, balance, teamwork, and self esteem.
