Engagement in any area of life is key to accomplishing anything, especially in school. With the Covid pandemic we are all dealing with, our school has opted to do a distance learning model that has few students in class and the vast majority at home. My classes have 2-4 students in my class physically, and 22-25 students virtually depending on the period. With my laptop connected to the projector in class to demonstrate for the in-class students, my laptop screen shrinks in a visual ratio. As I share my laptop screen with the distance learners, I lose all view of their displayed videos. At that point I can no longer see facial cues on their understanding. I cannot see if the students have a question to ask or if they are distracted by something from my lesson. Currently, they have to unmute their mics on their end and interrupt whatever we are going through at the moment. By having a larger monitor on the side, I would be able to see the student's faces virtually, just like I do with my in class students. This allows me to maintain positive academic rigor, behavioral challenges, and allows forming better relationships as interaction is now made possible for everyone. The splitter I am requesting will allow me to view the students on the monitor, run my lesson from the laptop while simultaneously using the in-class projector. I do hope you consider my request.
