These materials will make a huge difference in our day! My students have recess in the afternoon, after a long morning of learning, so they need an outlet, before they finish the day off back in the classroom. We currently do not have any equipment, as we rely on individual students bringing in their equipment from home, which is inconsistent. "Play" is an important part of learning how to relate to peers and build confidence. Unfortunately, we don't have those opportunities because there is a lack of equipment at our school. I envision the boys setting cones to mark the blacktop to play soccer or kickball. I see the girls playing with different jump ropes and singing songs with their friends. I see collaborative play as an outlet to help them focus in the classroom, as well as build a community of cooperative learners, who can work together toward a common goal, learn sportsmanship, and learn the value of a little friendly competition.
