My students are currently learning about biotechnology and are fascinated by the idea of being able to transfer genes from one organism to another. In biotechnology, this process is known as transformation and has led to the explosion of new health treatments, agricultural applications, and environmental solutions. The Bacterial Transformation kits I'm requesting will allow my students to take the gene that makes jelly fish glow, insert it into bacteria, and make the bacteria glow. Through this lesson, students will come to understand what genes are, how they are expressed, how they can cut them out of one genome, insert them into another, and have expression of the desired trait in the new organism. This learning activity will be an exciting and amazing learning experience.
