Rug time is a crucial part of learning in kindergarten. We are in need of supplies to make this time more successful. Right now, I am using an old broken easel that does not function in the way we need. Having an easel that is magnetic and has storage compartments makes it easy to have all of our needed supplies readily available for our learning/teaching. Students would be able to come up and display their learning by either writing on the white board or hanging their work with magnets. This easel also allows me to display charts relevant to their learning as well. While I am teaching by the easel, students can be seen sitting in a circle on the rug. Yet, it is often difficult for young minds to stay focused, especially children with various special needs. The alternative seating, Cube Chairs, Hokki Stools, and Movin' Sit Jr., can benefit students who have an excessive need for movement or other body sensation. The goal of an alternative seating option is to give students the opportunity to generate more sensation. Examples of generating more sensation include: shifting weight, bouncing gently, engaging postural muscles for balance, or snuggling into a support or cushion. This can help some students maintain focus while working on activities or staying engaged in a group lesson on the rug.
