The Ninth Ward is a powerful book that describes the resilience of one girl in the face of Hurricane Katrina. I believe that using a shared experience, such as reading a book together will help build strong readers. This book in particular will help students to empathize with the others and will lead to fruitful conversations about natural disasters, perseverance, friendship, and family. I have taught these students last year and now get the pleasure of teaching them for another year. My switch up to fifth grade leaves me needing assistance in getting powerful literature for our class to read this upcoming school year. I truly appreciate any assistance! Thank you!
