Preparing our students for the future is one of many tasks we teachers have. Providing preschool aged students with science materials allows those students to grow confident in the science studies. As we know, young children are naturally curious, by providing science tools and materials in my classroom I want to help foster that curiosity. Additionally, the experience my preschoolers have investigating and exploring with science now will lay the groundwork for their attitude towards science and hopefully carry over into other curricular areas. I was never a big fan of science until I was introduced to hands on experiences and materials. I want to provide my students various opportunities throughout the day to explore so they will be a fan. I currently have one shelf designated to Science, however the contents on the shelf do not provide for much exploration! I have a few magnets, but lacking objects to "test"! The magnify glasses were chipped or scratched and most had to be thrown away because they were unsafe. If we can get new science materials and tools, we can not only investigate objects inside, I can also incorporate more outdoor exploration into our lesson plans.
