I work in an inner city school that is home to our District's SAIL program for children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our school is a PreK-Grade 6 school where 48% of our students do not have English as a first language. 34% are students with disabilities and 84% are high needs. I teach in a sub separate classroom. The degree of my students' disorders makes it impossible for them to be included in a general classroom setting. My students require a highly modified curriculum, smaller class size, and a lower student/teacher ratio in order to be successful learners. I have 12 of the most charming, fantastic children in my classroom. They each have their own distinct ways of learning and this makes it difficult to provide them with all the materials they need to meet their individual learning styles and academic levels.
