My first graders enter my classroom with very diverse backgrounds and have had different literacy experiences. They also come speaking a variety of different languages, with varied levels of English language. I want to level the playing field so I want to provide all my children with a rich literate environment. Mo Willems books are truly enjoyed by all my students. The stories keep my children engaged and motivated to read more. The students read these books with great expression which leads to laughter, children loving reading! I am planning to begin the school year with an author study about Mo Willems to familiarize them with Mo and his books. Having these books will help to get a book of high interest into every child's hand from the very beginning of the school year.
