My students come from low-income households, many with younger siblings to take care of or parents who work all the time just to make ends meat. When they come to school, they are not only looking for an education, but they are also looking for a warm smile, a caring person, someone who will just give them attention. I work at a school that has a high free lunch rate and every child gets free breakfast. Sometimes, that is the only two meals that they get all day. Even with odds stacked against them, the majority of them still come to school ready to learn. Donor's choose helps my students by giving them materials that they would otherwise not have. School budgets only allow for so much, and I can only spend so much out of my own pocket. Donor's choose helps get them the materials that can help them better understand and learn in an environment that is safe and provides the right tools for their learning.
