This is a really exciting year to teach social studies because of the upcoming election! With such a diverse population, students are already curious about the election and how the leadership of each presidential candidate will affect them. They are wondering, for instance, how issues of immigration might affect them or their peers in our classroom. Scholastic News is a great, kid friendly, source for current events. It will allow my students to engage with the news and become better citizens. Furthermore, with online articles at different levels, it will provide accessible and exciting ways for students at all different reading abilities to meaningfully practice their reading.
