Math is ultimately about the study of patterns. As students search for patterns in the mathematical world, each student sees patterns in a slightly different way. In today's world where the ability to communicate effectively is so critical, it is important that students have an opportunity in class to practice presenting, justifying, and defending their math ideas to their peers. As our class navigates through more complex math ideas, students can use an iPad to present their ideas to the class in a way that is so much more powerful than mere speaking. By having an iPad that we can link to our class projector, students can visually demonstrate their ideas on how to graph on a platform like Desmos. They can walk the class through their steps on how to solve a complex equation or they can break down a pattern using various digital tools. Using an iPad and a stylus, students can draw, write, graph, diagram, and animate their presentations so others can more clearly understand the student's thinking. Now that our ancient class overhead projector has been sent to E-waste, we want to take full advantage of the various electronic tools at our disposal to promote communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving. Having a class iPad that students can use to showcase their ideas with, will add an amazing dimension to our math class!
