I am blessed beyond belief to be these students' teacher. I try to never miss a day in expressing that to them. They love inviting our principal and other teachers into the room to see them do things that most third and fourth graders are doing. If I could, I would invite every person in our room to see them "roll their numbers" i.e. rap their multiplication tables. My school is succeeding in a district where it is not common. In fact, I work in a district that has been bashed nationally for the worst achievement gap between white and minority students in the nation. My diverse students are crushing that statistic. They are outperforming students at their grade level in the suburbs. They believe hard work pays off. But best of all, they are good, kind kids who deserve the world.
