My students are 4th graders with a hope to better themselves and their families by receiving an education that will get them to what they want to one day become. They attend a very old school that is economically disadvantaged. The teachers lounge is in a portable, the restrooms are very old and stinky, and the buildings are very old and need renovation. My students live in areas where there are gangs, shootings, and many have only one parent figure. Many of their parents are in jail, dead, or have given them up to their grandparents because they don't want the responsibility of a child. Many speak of how one day they want to be something more than there mom or dad ever was. My heart goes out to each of these students with a broken heart, life, and home.
