Reading is an internal process. Understanding what you are reading comes from within. It is difficult to "show" students your internal thinking. I read-aloud daily with my students and explain my thought process as I journey though a story with them. I want to teach them how to really interact with everything they read. Annotating a passage really allows a student to "talk" with the text. Respond. Question. Infer. Clarify. Learn. Love. A document viewer will allow me to show my students how to use these strategies. As students grasp skills and strategies, they can also become a teacher to their peers. When a student shows me they got it, really got it, how great will it be to use their work as a model? Cooperative learning is key in the 21st Century classroom. Kids learn from kids. They see their classmates succeed and it gives them that boost of confidence to work just as hard. My students would greatly benefit having a document camera in the classroom. They will enjoy learning strategies to become better readers and writers. But most importantly enjoy feeling confident to show off their hard work to their classmates. We need your support! Thank You!
