The students in our Engineering course are all low-income, minority students. The majority of them are female and freshmen in high school (though we do have some students from other grades). These kids work really hard and have put a lot of weight on their education. It's not easy throwing away your free time for academics and yet, these kids do it day in and day out. They are serious about their education and we want to do everything we can to keep them excited about STEM education. Our Engineering course includes a 50/50 split of academics and hands-on activity. We really believe that doing is an important part of learning. In order to do many of these labs, however we need to pull resources.
