My school district is located in rural Pennsylvania, many of our students receive free or reduced lunches and come from families of poverty or middle class. My classroom is titled emotional/autism support and consists of a range of students. My students are diagnosed with autism, opposition defiance disorder, intellectual disabilities, etc. My students struggle with issues that are much bigger than them. Some of these difficulties they have faced are ones that I have not faced yet in life. We work daily on coping skills, communication, hygiene, and being a team! They require sensory breaks, movement, reinforcement, and love to succeed. Sometimes they just need a hug and other times they require lots of praise and encouragement. I want to provide them with every opportunity to succeed, these kids mean the world to me!
