Students will use these building tools to reach a variety of engineering standards in our first two units - engineering design process as well as construction and manufacturing. Some of the ways they will reach these include building scale models of houses and bridges that can withstand natural disasters. These real world projects - which instill problem solving, critical thinking, and effective communication while nurturing a growth mindset, grit and tenacity - are crucial for our diverse students to be competitive in a global economy. We will be needing many additional items - such as Legos, KEVA planks, Lego Mindstorms, a drone, and a 3D printer. I am hoping to author these proposals as well - my students deserve all the same opportunities and chances that every other kid deserves.
