My classroom is full of energetic, diverse first graders who come to school each day eager to learn. My first graders come to me with hurdles to jump. We are a high poverty school, with a free and reduced lunch program that exceeds 75%. We provide universal breakfast for all our students and have many programs and services available to meet the personal needs of our families. Our school community has the largest English Language Learner population within our district. We educate and nurture students that speak 15 different languages. While my students face a variety of personal struggles daily, it does not take away their love for learning. Math workshop is a favorite time of day. They love manipulating their environment to deeper understand the foundational concepts necessary for them to become lifelong mathematicians.
