I work at a Title I school in Phoenix. 22 out of my 26 students speak Spanish at home and had to learn English as their second language. I have a class that lives in poverty, with parents who work extremely hard to provide for their child. However, if you walked into my classroom you would never be able to see the struggle these children go through each day. My students come eager to learn each and every day despite the struggles at home. I have a classroom that does not accept excuses. They do not blame misunderstanding a word problem in math on English being their second language. My students give 110% everyday to each problem on every assignment. I have the word "persevere" above the whiteboard in my classroom. My students are the definition of perseverance. They do not give up, especially in the face of difficulty. I give my best to my students because that is what they give me, and that is what each one deserves.
