Imagine sitting down to read your favorite book. Where are you sitting? It's probably not the most uncomfortable chair in your house. My students need comfortable, flexible seating so they are not reading on outdated, hard, wooden library chairs. I teach five hundred students in a rural middle school and our library furniture is dull and outdated. The library space should be bright and vibrant to reflect the unique personalities of my students. They need comfortable, flexible seating options to encourage them to read. Unfortunately, my library budget is not adequate enough to allow the purchase of new furniture. My students would benefit from bean bag chairs, high-top cafe tables and comfortable reading chairs. If the library space is warm and inviting, they will be more likely to visit the space and more likely to read.
