All kids can learn and they all need to feel successful. I teach at a low income school with a large number of students with special needs, especially Autism. I am passionate about including my students with special needs into their general education classrooms. When they're included and given individualized support, they blossom academically and socially right before my eyes. They have a sense of belonging. Everyone deserves to belong. My project is an important 21st century tool that will foster social and academic successes. Kids with Autism think in pictures. By providing them with a platform for audio-visual media, they will have visual access to books, music, educational apps, and web content. Many of my students have communication needs. With an ipad, they have an efficient way to communicate their ideas and desires with a few taps of their fingers. These devices are truly a way to bridge their world to ours.
