A cozy carpet will be used to gather all students comfortably during teacher read aloud's and whole group math instruction. Our school has a huge focus on social and emotional learning. We discuss how to make our classroom a safe and loving environment where all students can learn, we play games and use social skills cards to think about how actions impact themselves and others. A large carpet would allow all students to sit together during our morning and afternoon class meetings where we team build, share ideas and suggestions. My students love to sit together when having conversations and this carpet would allow for my entire class to sit together and hear everyone's thoughts, feelings and contributions to our lessons.
