These books will give students who read below grade level the opportunity to enjoy a book within their reading ability that also represents their life experience. Reading books in verse gives students a chance to explore language in a manner that is rich and approachable, while maintaining themes appropriate to their age and interests. Many of these students come from word-poverty environments. Giving them books full of rich language will not only improve their reading but will open new ideas and themes while giving them a greater sense of accomplishment.
