Having access to these iPad Minis for learning will support my struggling and advanced students by giving them access to fun, engaging activities that help close the learning gaps. Videos, games, and digital texts are much more engaging than a text book, and kids can learn the same information. I feel that providing my students with tools beyond textbooks will get them excited about learning and provide a boost in their motivation to want to learn. During small groups, my students will be able to have access to apps that support their growing reading skills, such as word building and phonics, MyOn, and Istation. They will be able to have access to information that will build background knowledge before reading a text full of unfamiliar content. Tablets will be a way to pull pictures to support the information presented in the text, to help support what the author is talking about, thus improving comprehension. The tablets will also allow more of my students to work on MyOn and Istation at the same time for intervention and enrichment. My hope is that having tablets will help improve reading fluency and comprehension of grade level texts. My hope is that my students will be motivated and confident in their daily work because of the small group support and technology access they will have. My hope is that this project will help create hard-working, successful learners.
