The majority of projects in the art room greatly benefit from reference photos and prior research on the subject. It is difficult to draw or sculpt most things without looking at the subject while sketching. I would like to purchase a class set of tablets so my students will have regular access to resources on the internet. With tablets accessible to most students simultaneously, students can empower themselves to practice new skills, find appropriate resources, and learn at their own pace. Tablets will also allow us to practice digital art and editing skills through the use of free apps. Having these tools will free up the time I often spend helping students find photos on my computer to instead circulate the room and work with students one-on-one to improve the quality of their art. Though many students have access to phones and computers at home, not all students realize what powerful tools they can be for creative expression. Technological literacy is a key component for students' success in college and the workplace, so providing dedicated instruction will help be more successful in the future.
