Right now, we have 3 computers in our classroom that are about 10 years old and running on an Internet cord. I encourage my students to use the computers for different reading applications to try to motivate and excite them about reading, but the speed and dependability of these computers aren't always reliable. I believe that the Kindles will be a great asset to the classroom because the students will be excited to use them, they will provide the students with a greater opportunity to use technology, and it will further their growth and development in a more engaging and interactive manner. I work at a Title 1 school, meaning that most of the students receive free or reduced priced meals. The students might not get the opportunity at home to use and be exposed to the technology that is needed in our day in age to succeed. I want to give my students the chance to use technology in the classroom so that they have the platform to succeed in 2nd grade and beyond.
