Most of my students are from lower income families in South Los Angeles. Many are 1st generation Americans. Most come from families that have never had any member attend college or even graduate high school. Many students have low expectations of what they can accomplish during high school or after graduation. Some of the challenges at my school are finding ways to encourage students to stay in school and to do better in classes. It is well documented that students with extra interests do better in school.
