My students are high school students that are reading at an elementary level, which causes them to struggle in their content courses. At some point, they fell behind and were never caught up on fundamental reading skills and strategies. They often find themselves frustrated with themselves and school. The community is one of low-income. A significant percentage of students have been through foster care, homelessness, and other significant struggles. They are not provided the amount of support and opportunities that other children experience.
