The children in my classroom are some of the most lovable kids you will meet! They cheer each other on when they individually succeed on assignments and assessments. They have really taken to the school garden that I started in March, and many times they ask to work in the garden during part of their recess time. We have been blessed to have several Master Gardeners from our local botanical gardens to come out and work with our students to plant sunflowers, marigolds, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, cantaloupes, watermelon, radishes, cabbage, and collard greens. We also have a compost box that the students donate lunch scraps to every day. Students from second and third grade enjoy the compost and garden the most, and they beg their teachers to take them out there while first grade and kindergarten students have used the garden and compost to study soil and decomposition. The garden has really accelerated students' interests in learning and in science.
