My students reside in a high poverty neighborhood with little chance outside of education to escape. There is a lack of resources available to them, and it is my goal to ensure that they are given ample opportunities for success within my classroom. They come to me with reading levels far below those seen in affluent adjoining communities, and it is heartbreaking on so many levels. I want nothing more than to see them reach the goals and aspirations that are inside each of them. Educational success is closely tied to literacy and these kids deserve the chance to become successful readers.
