Students in this program have special needs. They are 18-21 (students with special needs can attend school until age 21). They are a hand selected group of students from our district. They have been selected because they are eager to learn vocational and life skills which may afford them the ability to be independent in the future. We work on shopping skills, household tasks, personal hygiene, interpersonal interactions, time management, emergency response situations, navigation (how to ride the city bus) and employment skills. Students learn through hands-on experiences in the community and daily living instruction in a natural setting. Students get excited about classroom activities. For example, yesterday a student exclaimed with a juicy grin, "I grew this! I fed it and watered it, and it grew!" They are excited to learn vocational skills such as gardening and canning to be productive citizens. They want our community to focus on their ABILITIES not disabilities.
