These twelfth grade students are anxious, students sit on the edge of their seat and want to learn. Excitement ensues as they receive a novel and have high hopes for what they read. When given a novel, anxiety leaves because purchasing their own books is sometimes needed. Not knowing their financial circumstances it becomes a relief in the classroom, no questions raised, no uncomfortable situations. They apply what they read to the future in this suburban, edge of rural, area. Students do not experience much diversity, they do not experience the world, but they have worldly ambitions as they read and put life into perspective. Literature enhances their ability to communicate and see the world from different angles.
