I work with some of the most impressive students in Baltimore City. Patterson is one of the largest schools in Baltimore and is certainly the most diverse. The majority of students I teach are African American, but I also work with students who hail from all over the world. More than 30 languages are represented at Patterson. My students face many challenges all too common in our city, including poverty, violence, trauma and addiction. The young people I teach continuously impress me with their energy and ambition. My school is great, but lacks some of the resources other schools have. Many of the young leaders who have stepped up in my class to lead their peers have told me that having better ways to communicate their work will make our class even better.
