If there is any part of the school day where each and every student has their complete attention on the teacher, it is during a read aloud. Children love to be read to and they listen so intently while they are listening to a story. However, as a special education teacher I notice some of my students have trouble reading independently and staying on task throughout the entire reading period. Also, some of their favorite texts may not be accessible to every reader. I chose books that my students love each and every year. We also do an author study on Kevin Henkes so I chose many of his books. I would love to have a listening center in my classroom to help keep my students engaged and learning during independent reading. A listening center will help engage my students and increase their reading ability. Students can listen to the story while following along in their own text. Please help our classroom add this listening center to our daily reading routine. I know my students would love it and truly benefit from this center!
