Our kids are of the digital age and when we use technology, we embrace change in the classroom. Our EL (21.5%), SPED (9.3%), Socioeconomically Disadvantaged (53.4%) and GATE (0.3%) student populations benefit from collaborative conversations. Our subgroups benefit from hearing these conversations and using academic vocabulary frequently with peers. GATE students learn there are different ways of looking at the world. We notice our students are highly engaged when performing hands-on activities. PLTW is an activity-, project-, and problem-based curriculum which ask students to work like true scientists. We have seen our subgroups thrive with these strategies, many times exceeding expectations. When we engage students through project based activities, learning becomes magical. Thus, we create a dynamic impact on all students’ learning. This program challenges and supports all learners in our classroom while closing the achievement gap and promoting college and career readiness.
