With your donations I was able to purchase kindergarten leveled books for my students to read. The books that were purchased have beautiful pictures in various genres at the beginner level needed to engage kindergarteners. I wish you could've heard their excitement when I pulled the books out for the first time. They felt like \"real\" readers. They were able to read the sight words and blend the other words to decode. Some of the trickier words have supportive illustrations so they can figure the word out. \r\n\r\nThe impact to help our students develop a passion and love for reading at a young age will last for years to come! Because of you, our classroom received the Hand2Mind Advancing Phonics Word Work Small Group Set and it's already making a difference in my students' learning and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe phonics magnets and manipulatives have become a key part of our daily routine. We're using them to build blends, digraphs, diphthongs, CVC and CVCC words, work through word ladders, and reinforce letter sounds. One of our favorite activities is reading short books together, then using the magnets to build highlighted words from the text. \r\n\r\nFor many of my students, especially those who struggle with writing, these materials have created new opportunities for success. They allow students to physically interact with language and make building words accessible. The tiles, sound boxes, and tactile tools support engagement and skill-building.\r\n\r\nBut more than that, I see joy in my classroom. I see students who are motivated, focused, and eager to participate. They cheer when they finish a word, smile when they sound something out correctly, and ask to do it again. That kind of confidence is priceless! Not only was my class able to enjoy some wonderful novel studies, but I have been able to provide my students an engaging and motivating reading library due to your generous donations.\r\nUsing a novel study to teach the English Language common core standards in 4th grade is more engaging for my students. They are able to connect with characters and dive into the complexities of a narrative. Being able to discuss all of the elements of narration is beneficial for my students. Discussing a novel requires the higher level critical thinking skills that my students need to have in order to have future academic success. \r\nYour generous donations also allowed me to purchase books for a classroom library. My students get so excited to read popular books that are engaging and fun. This enables them to learn about different genres, share with each other the books they enjoyed and make recommendations to their peers. Most importantly, if they learn that books are to be enjoyed, they will become life long readers.\r\nI am so appreciative of your help and so are my students.","fullyFundedDate":1728673275095,"projectUrl":"project/get-hooked-on-a-book/8839976/","projectTitle":"Get Hooked on a Book","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Swain","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9593732_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722797088640","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9593732"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132158","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":764,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":23,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":36,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.4,"schoolId":132158,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alder Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alder Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/folsom-cordova-unif-sch-dist/alder-creek-elementary-school/132158"}
