My students are bright, kind, wonderful kids, with limited resources. They surprise me everyday with their insights and observations! It is a small town school, and when I joined the staff here last year, I was immediately struck by how polite and mature the students are. Last year one of them asked why we don't have more comedy in the 8th grade reading curriculum. I agree! A class set of 40 Cyrano de Bergerac books would be a great way to make them laugh while they are learning. It also includes an age-appropriate romance which appeals to the boys in the class as well as the girls. Lastly, plays tend to encourage participation from students that otherwise tend to be quiet in class.
