My students are a mixture of first generation Americans in which very little English is spoken in the home, and long time residents of the community. All of my students are excited to learn, but many of their families cannot afford to buy books or have access to a computer in their home. Most of the students are on free and reduced lunch/breakfast program. Many benefit from the community backpack program which provides nutritious food to families who struggle to provide meals over the weekends. Parents want their children to succeed in school, but because of their language limitations they realize they cannot provide the support their children may need at home. That is why it is so important to immerse my students in their new language in as many ways as possible during the day.
