I teach in a large inner city school that services over 850 K-6th grade students. Our school is a "Community School" which has become the center of the neighborhood. It provides many services to the students and families. Students receive free breakfasts and many participate in the on-site clinic which helps reduce missed days. Parents are offered many classes to help the family get ahead (i.e. parenting, ESL, Citizenship courses). The majority of our students are of Bengali or Latin American decent. Many of these students (30%) are english language learners and struggle academically. These children enthusiastic participants and are appreciative of the opportunities an american education can afford them.
