Our community and surrounding neighborhoods were affected greatly by Hurricane Harvey. Our children experienced disruption to their normal everyday​ lives and witnessed a huge amount of loss and devastation. I want my students to know and understand that this is OUR classroom and that it is their safe place. I want it to be a warm and inviting place where children are comfortable and take risks in their learning. Children should feel a sense of ownership in their classroom. That is why I want my students to be able to have a voice and a choice in where and how they will do their best learning. Research shows that giving children different seating options increases productivity, attentiveness, and success. Flexible seating options will allow my students to choose where they work, how they work, and with whom they work. Whether it's on the floor with a lap desk, up higher on a stool, or bouncing on a ball, flexible seating encourages children to find their best working space and gives them the opportunity to move and engage in a different way. Flexible seating will also help promote collaboration and communication amongst my students. Stability balls, stools, kick bands, lap desks, and wobble cushions will allow my students to have fun while learning and give them the empowerment of choice and control over their seating environment.
