My 6th grade classroom has students of all ability levels. They range from full inclusion autistic students to 1st level English Learners, to Gifted students. I also mainstream DHH kids for History. Every student ends the year loving History. This is because I try to make every lesson a hands-on experience. Recently, our district has made major cuts into our school's budget. We have no money for supplies such as scissors, paint and glue. Specialty art supplies, that really make History lessons come alive, are definitely not in our school's budget. What supplies we do have are insufficient for my 6th graders. For instance, all of the scissors that we have were intended for elementary kids. They do not fit my students' hands. Also, they do not cut through cardboard. This year while attempting to complete this project, my kids developed blisters and cuts on their hands from the materials provided by the school. These donations would make their work easier, better and more fun!
